TV Stands
If you do not have a TV stand, where does your TV sit now? Is it on a table or in the corner on some make-shift box? Or do you just set it on top of your CD/DVD player? And how about your cables - are they hidden away or do they look more like black strands of spaghetti sticking out from behind the television? We often spend a fortune on our televisions and the associated surround sound system, game console and DVD player and forget about where it’s all going to go, or we try and fit it into an existing bookshelf hoping it doesn’t topple over and smash the screen.
Well, your TV stand should be a reflection of your sense of style, not just a place where the TV sits. Whether you spend hours watching the tele, or just occasionally when your mates come to watch the game on the weekends, the place where your TV sits makes all the difference in how enjoyable it is to watch. If the TV is too high, then when you’re sitting on the sofa or easy chair, you’re staring up at the picture which can add glare to the screen from windows or room lighting. If the TV is too low, you’re constantly looking down at the screen and often the remote infrared is awkward to access making channel changing difficult.
You also need to make sure TV stands are made of solid construction. Too often cheap stands are made of chipboard materials, rather than medium density fibre-board. Sure the chipboard makes them cheap, but it also means they may not be able to take the weight of the modern LCD/Plasma screens. What good is it to spend a bunch of money on a great TV just to have it break because the stand couldn’t take the weight? Don’t sacrifice your viewing pleasure (or your television) just because of a cheap stand. A quality stand will also have a way to manage the cables. Just pushing all the cables behind the TV doesn’t work. Your stand should have some way of organizing the cables and keeping them together so they are neat and tucked out of sight.
TV stands come in a variety of styles. Get one that is right for you. Don’t let your television watching experience
suffer because the TV the stand isn’t right.
